My name is Daniel Frost, and I am a Lakota artist and enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. For more than thirty years, I have worked as a professional artist, beginning my journey as a tattoo artist before expanding into fine art.

Tattooing taught me discipline, storytelling, and the responsibility that comes with creating meaningful imagery. Every tattoo carried a personal story, a memory, a loss, a victory, or a belief. After spending decades helping people tell their stories through ink, I found myself drawn to telling my own through paint.

Today, my work combines the precision and attention to detail developed through tattooing with a deeper exploration of identity, heritage, and place. My paintings are inspired by the landscapes of the American West, the traditions of my Lakota people, and the experiences that shaped my life growing up between Native and rural farming cultures.

Working primarily in acrylics, I combine airbrush techniques with traditional brushwork to create atmosphere, emotion, and depth. My process often begins with photography, research, and digital composition before evolving into layered paintings that balance realism with storytelling. Whether I am painting a tribal elder, a sacred landscape, wildlife, or a desert sunset, my goal is to create images that invite viewers to pause, reflect, and connect.

Tattooing remains an important part of who I am. The lessons learned from over three decades in the tattoo industry continue to influence every painting I create. Both art forms require trust, patience, craftsmanship, and an understanding that great artwork should carry meaning beyond the image itself.

Through my work, I strive to honor the resilience of Indigenous people, the beauty of the land, and the stories that connect generations. Every painting is an invitation to remember where we come from, appreciate where we stand, and consider the paths that lie ahead.
